Värmdö is the meeting place of the archipelago with a unique combination of the tranquil beauty of nature and a more urban lifestyle. Our mission is not one but many: schools, real estate, social services, ports, healthcare, libraries, care, and many more. We strive for all Värmdö residents to live a rich and free life. We want to be the ones who enable the dream of a vibrant and safe environment for homes, families, and businesses.

To succeed fully, we must have different competencies and work together for a common and trusting work culture, built on brave, responsible employees who understand the needs and wishes of the residents.

Our Operations

Would you like to work as a children's librarian with us? The Culture and Leisure Office operates within the youth, culture, sports, and leisure areas and consists of the units Värmdö Culture and Library, Young in Värmdö, Värmdö Culture School, and Sports and Leisure.

For Culture and Library, which consists of 20 people, we are now looking for an engaged and creative children's librarian who wants to help develop our operations with a focus on promoting reading, cultural activities, and collaboration. Värmdö Culture and Library's operations are largely found in the Värmdö Cultural House and include, among other things, the operation of three public libraries (Gustavsberg, Djurö, and Hemmesta), general cultural activities, responsibility for the municipality's art collection and image archive, operation of Gustavsberg Theatre, and management of cultural grants and scholarships.

Your Mission

As a children's librarian with us, you will work to create inspiring and inclusive environments for children and young people. You will plan and implement program activities, collaborate with schools, school librarians, and community organizations, and be an important part of making the library a place where everyone feels welcome.

You will have a particular focus on promoting reading, such as book talks, library tours, and actively working to awaken and strengthen children's desire to read – both through individual meetings and in collaboration with other actors in the municipality.

The role also includes typical librarian tasks such as media purchasing, cataloging, signage, and presentation of media, as well as keeping the library's children's section current and inspiring. In Värmdö Cultural House, there are facilities for theater, music, dance, and filmmaking – resources you are encouraged to use in your work to create diverse and creative experiences for our visitors.

Your Experience

You have a librarian education or equivalent academic training. You should have experience working with children and young people in libraries and experience and interest in working with children and youth in a multicultural context. You have experience in programming and preferably collaboration with schools, school librarians, and community organizations.

You are passionate about promoting reading and have good knowledge of children's literature. You are creative, proactive, and have good collaboration skills. You have a good ability to work with media selection, signage, and the library space as a pedagogical environment. You see the wide range of the Cultural House as an asset in your work.

It is an advantage if you have a driver's license for light trucks. It is also an advantage if you have knowledge of TAKK.

Your Personal Qualities

  • Initiative-taking
  • Relationship-building
  • Holistic view
  • Problem-solving analytical ability

We place great importance on personal suitability.

Värmdö municipality offers wellness grants, SL card against net salary deduction, and vacation exchange for extra days off. We also actively work to create health-promoting workplaces with a good working environment and apply smoke-free working hours.
